The Tropical label released hundreds of records in Colombia from at least 40 years. It's been releasing some of the best stuffs recorded by bands of any kind from the north coast of the country and licensing some interesting stuffs from other south american places and the caribbean islands. While working on the his first 45 which might be released in december, Dj Malecapa found the time to record a very interesting selection for us. Some months ago nostalgia took me back to Colombia. Since i had such a great response to my first mix "Papito digs Colombia", the idea of a new selection has crossed my mind more than once.
After more than 2 months of non stop digging for dusty vinyls i ended up with so much material that one mix wouldn't be enough and wouldn't give justice to the beautiful spectrum of sounds that i found.
So, i had to restrict my area and focusing on the real colombian music from the golden era.
The first mix was just a selection of latin grooves from any part of the Caribs and South America; i called it "digs Colombia" just because this lovely country was the place where i found the records.
But in this mix, apart very few exceptions - which are very colombian related anyway - i'm glad to introduce you to a REAL (someone would say PURE) selection of colombian dancefloor grooves!

"When my mate Paolo asked me to do a mix for his Good Taste Radio Show all I was thinking was : Paolo mate, you don't know what you're doing and you'll most probably gonna regret this...
I've been known as a masher ( mash up artist ) and club dj , not really compatible what people could call good taste, innit?
Nevertheless Papito persisted, and so I came up with a lil mix made out of tracks I found on the flea market, tracks my talented friends gave me and tracks I maded myself.
My wife is very happy about the mix , not only because the money dammage remains limited but also because I spend plenty of time digging in dusty record cases, making my own tracks and most luckily of all my mates who supply me with their own 45s have massive massive talent !

Good Taste presents Osaro Umoye
This week i would like to introduce you to the music of a 33 years old afro-beat vocalist called Osaro. Osaro, a musician from Lagos - Nigeria, has been a fan of the african legend Fela-Kuti, the originator of the underground spiritual african sound. Osaro lived with him during the 90s until his demise in 1997.
Osaro never knew he could sing while Fela was alive but at some point he found his spiritual inspiration while helping other friends which are into the afro-beat music.
He recently recorded two strong afro-beat singles titled "We have a lot to do" and "Condom". Since we started talking throught the phone Osaro has impressed me for his dedication and his conscious approach to life. That's why i'm proud to play his song "Condom" on my radio show, a song with a message about a problem still ignored by many in any part of the world. "Condom" is a reminder about the dangerous exposure to the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (A.I.D.S.) in today's society, a prayer to use condom every time people want to make love with unknown persons. Dj Arnold is an italian dj desperately trying to make a name in the soul scene (ahah). He's the man who can claim the highest number of nicknames in the music business (Dj Spranga, Dj Random, Dj SacroSintomo, Maria Maddalena only to name a few). Since i was a child i've always been curious about Colombia. One of my grandfathers used to live there and maybe he was the first who brought me in contact with colombian music through old cassettes of local radio stations.
I suppose it was my very first contact with latin music. When i grew up my interest in 60s music led me inevitably into the boogaloo first, and then into salsa & folklore music forms.
This is a selection of colombian records i've acquired recently, you will find killer boogaloos & descargas, salsa, mozambique, cumbia, guaracha and a stunning bolero as well!
